All aquaculture operations depend on feed for the fish they are growing. As the world-wide consumption of farm raised fish continues to grow, more and more wild caught fish species are being taken from the ocean to be turned into fish meal. These species are not typically desirable for human consumption, but make up a key part of the food chain for other ocean species. If we continue on this course, we risk a significant imbalance our natural oceanics ecosystems. HabiSea hopes to reduce this impact by teaching communities how to raise feed-stock species in balance with species meant for human markets.
Land-based pond aquaculture operations frequently polute local water supplies. This is particularly true for salt-water based pond aquaculture systems. HabiSea hopes to reduce this impact by creating very efficient, fully automated, recirculating aquaculture systems that fertilize vegetables and other food crops in a closed-loop system.
HabiSea invests the vast majority of its donations directly into projects you see illustrated on this websites pages and blog entries. Anything that's left helps us cover our operating costs. Our accounting is handled by a professional accounting firm and we are subject to strict financial guidelines by the IRS for reporting.
Self-sufficiency. Help teach those in your community how to grow fish and plants in a symbiotic relationship. Know that whatever they produce will benefit themselves directly or the community around them. Help offset the needs of your community, and teach a valuable skill at the same time. HabiSea helps by providing a built-in network of buyers for fish production, automation of the systems, and a blueprint for community programs.
